Web Design in London
That Gets You Found.

I build fast, properly structured websites for London businesses — sites that rank on Google (SEO), answer voice queries on Siri and Alexa (AEO), and get cited by AI tools like ChatGPT (GEO). No drag-and-drop builders. No bloat. No maintenance headaches.

Trusted by plumbers, electricians, builders, clinics and trades businesses across London, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Essex and Kent.

The Problem

Why Most London Websites
Quietly Lose Customers

Most web design agencies in London hand you a site that looks fine on the day it launches — then quietly costs you customers for the next three years. Heavy WordPress themes. Three-second load times. A Google PageSpeed score in the forties. No schema markup. No local SEO foundations. No conversion tracking that actually tracks anything. Then the agency invoices you for "maintenance" to keep it from breaking.

You don't need that. You need a website built properly from the first line of code — one that loads in under half a second, ranks for the searches your customers actually do, and shows up when someone in your area asks ChatGPT or Siri for a recommendation.

✗ Typical London Web Design Agency

  • WordPress + builders + heavy plugins
  • 3.5s+ load time, poor Core Web Vitals
  • SEO bolted on (or sold separately)
  • Generic template, every client looks the same
  • Monthly fees to 'keep the lights on'

✓ RankLocal Web Design

  • Astro framework, zero-JS by default
  • Sub-500ms load, all Core Web Vitals green
  • SEO, AEO and GEO built in from day one
  • Built around how your customers search
  • One clean build. You own it outright.

What You Actually Get

What "Properly Built" Actually Means

Three things every London business site needs — and that most agencies either skip entirely or sell to you as expensive extras.

Speed That Google Rewards

Sub-500ms load times. 100/100 PageSpeed scores. All Core Web Vitals in the green. Speed isn't a vanity metric — it's one of the primary factors Google uses to rank your site against your London competitors.

SEO Foundations Baked In

Every page ships with proper title tags, meta descriptions, structured data markup, semantic HTML, optimised images, and a clean internal linking structure. Not added later. Built in from the first commit.

Visible in AI Search Too

Voice search (AEO) and AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity (GEO) are how customers find local businesses now. Your site needs to be structured so these tools can read it, understand it, and cite you as the answer.

The Framework

The Only London Web Design Built for SEO · AEO · GEO Together

Most agencies optimise for Google search only. That worked in 2018. In 2026, your customers are also asking Siri for a plumber, asking Alexa for a roofer, and asking ChatGPT for a local clinic. If your site isn't engineered for all three, you're losing the customers who use them.

Traditional Search

SEO

Dominating Google search results through clean-code architecture, strategic keyword placement, Core Web Vitals optimisation, and the local signals Google uses to decide who shows up in the map pack.

Voice Search

AEO

Structuring your content so voice assistants — Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant — pick your business as the spoken answer. Voice search returns one result, not ten. AEO is how you become that one.

AI Answer Engines

GEO

Getting your business cited inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews when someone asks for a recommendation in your area. The fastest-growing search channel — and the one most London agencies still ignore.

How It Works

From Audit to Launch in 2–4 Weeks.

Forget drag-and-drop themes and recycled page builders. Every site is engineered from the ground up — with performance, search visibility, and lead conversion built into the architecture before a single page goes live.

  1. 01 Audit

Before We Touch a Line of Code

I dig into your current site, keyword rankings, local search footprint, and what your London competitors are doing. You get a clear picture of what's costing you visibility — and exactly what we're going to do about it.

  2. 02 Fix

    Clear the Dead Weight

Dead weight, broken signals, slow load times, weak on-page structure — cleared. The technical and SEO foundations Google rewards are put in place so your key pages have the best possible chance of ranking.

  3. 03 Build

    Every Page Has a Purpose

High-converting service pages. Locally-optimised landing pages for the towns you actually serve. Supporting content that reinforces your authority in the London market.

  4. 04 Grow

    Launch Is the Starting Line

I track performance, close the gaps, expand your content footprint, and build the kind of compounding organic visibility that keeps delivering leads month after month.

Industries I build for

Web Design Built Around How Your Customers Actually Search

A plumber's website needs different landing pages than a physio clinic's. A roofer's site needs different conversion paths than a locksmith's. I know the difference, because I only work with local businesses across London and the Home Counties.

Common Questions

Web Design London — Frequently Asked Questions

How much does web design cost in London?
It depends on the build. A small service-business site with proper SEO foundations starts in the low thousands. A bigger site with multiple service pages and local landing pages costs more. I don't sell fixed packages because no two businesses need the same site. Pricing is quoted upfront in writing, not drip-fed once you're locked in. The pricing page has the breakdown.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most projects go live in 2 to 4 weeks. Discovery, architecture, build, optimisation, launch. If you need it faster, say so at the start and I'll tell you whether it's doable.
What makes RankLocal different from other London web design agencies?
You speak directly to the person writing the code. No account manager in the middle. Sites are built on Astro instead of WordPress, which is why load times come in under half a second instead of three or four. And SEO, voice search and AI search are baked in from the first commit, not sold as extras six months later.
Astro vs WordPress — which is better for a small business website?
For a brochure or service-business site, Astro is the better choice in almost every case. It ships zero JavaScript by default, so pages are roughly five to ten times faster. No plugin bloat. No monthly security patches. No theme that quietly breaks when WordPress pushes an update. The catch: you can't log in to a visual builder and edit pages like you would in Elementor or Divi. If that's important to you, stick with WordPress. If you'd rather have a site that ranks and stays out of your way, Astro is the answer.
What is Core Web Vitals and why does it matter?
Core Web Vitals are three metrics Google uses to score how a page actually feels to use. Largest Contentful Paint is how fast the main content shows up. Interaction to Next Paint is how fast the page reacts when you click. Cumulative Layout Shift is whether things jump around as the page loads. Fail any of them and Google will rank competitors above you. Most WordPress sites I audit fail at least two.
Do you build websites that rank on Google?
Yes. Every site ships with Core Web Vitals in the green, on-page SEO, structured data, and the technical foundations Google looks for. Most clients see meaningful ranking movement within 60 to 90 days. How fast you'll see results depends on where you're starting from and how competitive your patch is.
How do I know if my current website is hurting my Google rankings?
A few quick signals. Run your site through PageSpeed Insights. If you're scoring below 70 on mobile, you have a problem. Check Google Search Console for Page Experience issues. If you're getting traffic but no enquiries, your conversion paths are likely broken. If you're getting neither, the issue is usually older: thin content, no schema, slow hosting, or no local SEO foundations. The free Visibility Snapshot covers all of this.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes, and it's the most common job. I audit your current site, find what's costing you visibility, then rebuild on Astro. Most clients see a 3x or better improvement in load speed and measurable ranking gains within 60 days of relaunch.
What is GEO and why does it matter for my London business?
GEO is Generative Engine Optimisation. It's the work of structuring your site so AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews cite your business when someone asks for a recommendation. More customers are asking these tools 'best plumber in Hackney' or 'physio near Sevenoaks' instead of typing into Google. If you're not structured to be quoted, you're invisible to those people.
What's the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?
SEO is ranking on Google's traditional search results. AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) is being picked as the spoken answer when someone asks Siri or Alexa. GEO is being cited inside AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity. They overlap, but the structural requirements are different. A site optimised only for SEO will often miss AEO and GEO completely.
Is a freelancer or an agency better for a small business website?
Depends what you're paying for. A bigger agency gives you process, account managers and a polished pitch deck. A solo operator gives you direct access to whoever's doing the work, faster turnaround, and usually a smaller bill because you're not funding an office, a sales team, or three layers of project management. For most local service businesses, the solo route works better. For a 200-page enterprise site, it doesn't.
Do you build e-commerce sites?
Not really. I focus on service businesses — plumbers, electricians, clinics, trades, builders. If you sell products through an online shop, I'll send you to someone who specialises in Shopify or WooCommerce. Service businesses with a small product element (selling spare parts, say) are fine.
Do you only work with businesses in central London?
No. I work across Greater London and the Home Counties — Surrey, Hertfordshire, Essex, Kent. Most clients serve a specific borough or town rather than all of London.
Do I own the website after you build it?
Yes. You own the code, the domain, the hosting account, all of it. No platform fees. No proprietary builder you can't leave. If you ever want to move to another developer, you can take the whole site with you.
What happens if I want to add pages or update content later?
I can add at build time, or you can send changes to me and I'll do them. Most clients prefer the second option for big changes and the first for small text edits. No lock-in either way.
Do you offer ongoing SEO after the website is built?
Yes, but only if it makes sense for your business. Some clients only need a properly built site and stop there. Others want ongoing monthly SEO, <a href="/google-business-profile-management" class="text-brand-cyan hover:underline">Google Business Profile management</a>, or both. No obligation either way. No long contracts.
How do I get my business cited by ChatGPT or Perplexity?
A few things have to be in place. Your site needs clean, semantic HTML so the AI can parse it. You need structured data so it knows what your business does and where. You need clear, factual content that directly answers the questions people are actually asking. And you need third-party mentions — directories, reviews, local press — so the AI has multiple sources confirming what you do. The work is less about keywords and more about being the obvious answer.
