The starting point

Where the old AM site fell short

The old WordPress site had a broken security certificate.

Scope

What we did for AM

  • New website, 30 pages
  • 31 redirects so links to the old site still work
  • Published price list by load size
  • Photos from the firm's own jobs used for most of the imagery
  • Before-and-after comparisons built from real jobs

Site structure

How AM Rubbish Clearance's pages are grouped

AM's sitemap holds 30 pages. Services and service areas each get a folder with a hub page at the top, and the homepage, prices, gallery, about and contact pages sit alongside them.

Eight services

House, flat, property, end-of-tenancy, office, commercial and garden clearance, plus wait and load. Wait and load is the service sold at the published load prices. The rest are quoted after a free survey or from photos, and the quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

Twelve towns, fifteen area pages

Ascot, Beaconsfield, Chertsey, Datchet, Egham, Gerrards Cross, Langley, Maidenhead, Marlow, Staines, Sunningdale and Virginia Water, with separate house clearance pages for Ascot, Beaconsfield and Maidenhead. The Marlow page explains why a loaded clearance vehicle goes round Marlow Bridge and its three-tonne limit, and which permit a household van needs at the Clay Lane recycling centre.

The price list

Four load sizes, from a quarter load at £130 (up to 250kg, with 15 minutes of labour) to a full load at £390 (up to 1,000kg, with an hour). Itemised extras, heavy materials and what each service costs come next, then six questions, one of them asking what "subject to survey" actually means.

The gallery

Fourteen before-and-after pairs, each shot from the same position, then single frames from the same jobs and others: 74 photographs in all. A note explains that pictures showing a house number or a neighbour's signage stay off the site, and that a photo taken part-way through a job is captioned as one.

The homepage, in order

After the opening strip come the eight service cards, then the load price table with a column for the skip each load equals (a full load matches a 14-yard builders skip). Ten before-and-after sliders follow, then four reasons to choose AM, a link for checking the registration on the Environment Agency register, and the Google reviews.

About and contact

The story of the firm and a contact page, alongside the two hub pages for services and areas.

The build

What replaced AM's old WordPress site

Every town page has its own questions and answers (eleven on the Marlow page), marked up so the question and its answer can be read as a pair. Local detail in that format sits at the centre of our SEO and AI search approach.

Built in Astro

The 30 pages are built as plain HTML before anyone visits, the 74-photo gallery included.

Schema markup

The homepage marks up a LocalBusiness serving 13 named towns, with its opening hours, Companies House number and Environment Agency registration. Area pages add a Service, a Place and their FAQs, the prices page has six FAQs, and the gallery is an ImageGallery.

An llms.txt file

For AI tools it separates the jobs sold at the published load prices from the ones quoted after a survey, and gives the upper-tier registration, the Datchet base, the rough 30-mile working radius and each load price with its weight limit.

The opening photo shows two of the crew loading the firm's own van on a driveway. A green strip beneath it lists the licence, seven-day opening, the ULEZ-compliant fleet and free quotes.

AM on a phone

On a phone the waste carrier number and phone number keep their place in the top bar, above the same van photo and the headline.

Design decisions

What a customer notices on the AM site

Prices by the load, up front

The price list sets out what each load size costs, from a quarter load to a full load, and what's included, instead of hiding it behind a quote form.

Drag to compare

Before-and-after photos from real clearances sit in a slider you can drag, so the difference is the customer's to see.

Three ways to get in touch, always visible

On a phone, Call now, WhatsApp and Free Quote are fixed to the bottom of every page.

The licence in the top bar

Their waste carrier registration number sits beside the phone number at the top of the page, where a careful customer looks first.

The trade

Building for a clearance firm that prices from photos

Clearance customers often can't judge how much they're getting rid of, and they can't see who will turn up to take it. When I build for this trade I want the site to settle both. The AM gallery sets each job before and after from the same spot and says plainly that nothing in it is stock or generated, and the quote route asks the customer for the same kind of photo in return.

Local knowledge does the rest. A firm that knows its van can't take Marlow Bridge, or that a household van needs a 31-day permit at Clay Lane, can put that on the page, and it's hard to fake. That kind of on-site local content in a question-and-answer format is the AEO half of the work, as our explainer on how GEO and AEO differ sets out. I've also written about web design for clearance companies and local search for clearance firms.

Two ways to start

Want a gallery that proves the work?

If your phone is full of before-and-after photos with nowhere good to show them, tell me about the jobs behind them. Photos taken without a website in mind are fine to start with.

"Highly recommend RankLocal. I was apprehensive at first as had been let down with a previous agency I used, but went with the Growth Engine and the level of insight, professional development and web exposure obtained from this was way above my expectation. Dan is clearly very knowledgeable in this field and extremely proactive."

"I had a site for my 1 man company for years that never really gained much traction so I decided to bring it up to date. Rank Local rebuilt the site and it looks so much better — modern and easier to navigate. I've already been contacted by people from the site so whatever they did, they did it right. Thanks again Dan."
