The starting point

Where the old GX site fell short

The old WordPress site was slow on phones and gave Google no structured information about the business.

Scope

What we did for GX

  • Six-page website plus a custom 404 page
  • Contact form
  • Gallery filtered by job type
  • Instagram feed
  • Google reviews carousel

Site structure

Six pages for GX Tree Care & Fencing

GX's sitemap lists six pages, one for each item in the menu: Home, Services, Areas Covered, Gallery, About and Contact. The custom 404 page sits outside it. Each page does one job, and the Google reviews carousel runs on all six.

Services

One long page in three parts, with a jump link to each. Tree surgery covers crown lifting, pollarding, felling and stump grinding, the garden section covers clearance, maintenance and new lawns, and the last part covers closeboard fencing, driveways and patios. Every service gets three short ticks, such as "Replant or re-turf ready" under stump grinding. Eight questions follow, from NPTC certification to how long a fence run takes (usually one to two days).

Areas Covered

Seventeen named towns across Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and north-west London, from Gerrards Cross and the Chalfonts to Watford, St Albans and Harrow, with a note that the villages around them are covered too. Six questions deal with how far the team travels, same-day quotes and whether emergency call-outs reach every area.

Gallery

Twenty-five captioned photos: eight of tree work, seven of fencing and ten of gardens and driveways, from crown lifting beside railway arches to a sandstone driveway and a new striped lawn. Four filters sit above them: all work, tree surgery, fencing, and gardens and driveways. Each photo's alt text names the job and often the place, such as a sandstone patio and closeboard fence in Chalfont St Peter.

About

A short history of the family-run business, which offers one team for tree work, closeboard fencing and garden groundwork, so a single overhanging branch and a whole new garden go to the same people. Three steps run from a free quote and advice to a clean finish, with the green waste taken away under the waste carrier licence. Four assurances follow: insurance, the licence, NPTC certification and free quotes.

Contact

The quote form asks for a name, phone, email, town or postcode and a description of the job, with a drop-down of the nine services plus "Not sure / Other". Alongside it are both numbers, the email address, the opening hours (weekdays 7am to 5pm, Saturdays until 1pm) and the 24/7 emergency line.

Home

A strip of four quick facts sits under the opening screen: a team based in Gerrards Cross, insured and licensed work, free written quotes and a 10-mile radius. The nine services follow in brief, then four reasons to choose the team under "A Local Team That Turns Up & Tidies Up", the last of them a clean and tidy finish. The reviews and a short summary of the area covered close the page.

The build

A lean build for GX Tree Care

Six pages suits a firm that works within about ten miles of its base. Each one is built ahead of time, and an llms.txt file puts the basics where AI search tools can find them.

Built in Astro

Six pages and a custom 404, built as plain HTML. The service list, the FAQs and the town list are all in that HTML, so nothing waits on a script.

An llms.txt file

It describes GX as a family-run business with NPTC-certified tree surgeons, lists the services, names five of the towns in its 10-mile radius of Gerrards Cross and gives both phone numbers and the 24/7 emergency call-outs.

The headline is set in tall condensed capitals on the right, with the short intro, the quote button and three ticks (fully insured, free quotes, waste licence) on the left. A wide fencing photo runs underneath.

Design decisions

How the GX pages were designed

A gallery you can filter

Recent work is grouped into tree surgery, fencing, and gardens and driveways, so a customer looking for a fence isn't scrolling past tree work.

Both numbers in the header

On desktop, both phone numbers sit in the header beside the logo.

A tall, confident headline face

A condensed display face and a forest-green palette give the site an editorial feel that suits outdoor work.

WhatsApp always on screen

A WhatsApp button stays in the corner on every page.

The trade

Building for tree surgeons and fencers

Tree work and fencing are judged on how the garden looks when the team leaves, so the photos carry more weight than any amount of copy. On GX the gallery is grouped by job type, and Google reviews sit near the foot of the main pages, several of them about the tidy-up. Planning matters too: a tree under a Tree Preservation Order or in a Conservation Area needs consent, and the services page says so up front.

Storm damage is the other thing a tree surgeon's site has to deal with. GX's 24/7 emergency line appears on the contact page, in the answers on the services and areas pages and in the llms.txt file, so it's there whichever way someone arrives.

A firm working a ten-mile patch can start small. What it needs alongside a lean site is a well-kept Google profile with real job photos added every week, the habit our guide to Google Maps for tradesmen recommends. I've written more about websites for landscapers and garden firms and SEO for landscaping businesses.
